December 7th through December 14th of 2011 was a memorable occasion
for the Athens Karate School in Athens, Texas. It was the site of the 10th
annual Athens Karate School Winter Tuite Camp hosted by my students and I.
It was made even more special with a visit by Kaicho Isao Kise on his first trip
to the United States by himself.

アシンス空手スクール（テキサス州アシンス）では毎年冬に唐手合宿を行なって
きましたが、２０１１年１２月７日から１４日まで行なわれた合宿は、大きな節目
となる１０周年の合宿でした。またこの記念すべき合宿に喜瀬功会長が初めてお一人
でアメリカにいらしたことは、なにより光栄なことでした。

The weekend began on Wednesday, December 7th when my student,
Sensei Nathan Batson, and I met Kaicho at the Dallas/Ft Worth International
Airport on his arrival from Okinawa. After a prolonged trip through customs,
Kaicho finally walked through the gate and the weekend got underway.

まず１２月７日水曜日に、私と私の弟子であるネイサン バットソンが、沖縄から着かれた

Thursday was spent reviewing techniques with Kaicho that would be the heart of
the weekend training camp for his approval and comments and corrections. Several
hours were spent reviewing these techniques with Kaicho and some adjustments
were made. These techniques represented an expansion of our current tuite
requirements, fairly significantly, to further our members training in the tuite
techniques of our system.

翌日木曜日は、唐手合宿でカバーされるテクニックを会長にご披露し、会長の承認、
コメント及び修正をいただくために、かなりの時間が費やされました。そのかいあって
現在、連盟で教えられている唐手の認定課題のテクニックをさらに深め、また広げる
ことができました。

The techniques were reorganized by myself and presented to Kaicho as a
possible new set of requirements. All of the prior requirements were included
with a few eliminations due to repetitiveness and a larger number of new
techniques including many new joint locking techniques and the supporting
techniques to make them work such as change-body an other types of footwork,
weight shifting, flow drills, etc. Kaicho was pleased with the new techniques and
Thursday was brought to a close with some photo opportunities with the kids
class in the Athens Karate School and Kaicho and I heading off to the hotel where
the seminar was being held.

会長には私が事前にまとめておいた、新たな唐手認定課題をご披露しました。
内容的には以前の認定課題の中で重複部分を省くなどして簡素化した上で、関節極め、
体かわしなどの足運び、体重移動などの新たなテクニックを加えたものです。
会長の承認をいただき、その日は写真撮影、少年の部の稽古で締めくくったあと
合宿の会場となるホテルに会長と共に向かいました。

Friday morning, bright and early, we got the camp underway. Many of my
students and friends from around the country were in attendance which made
the camp even better. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were devoted to practicing
this "new" set of techniques and lots of very hard work and great camaraderie
were evident throughout the weekend. All the techniques were reviewed under
the watchful eye of Kaicho and with his help, the weekend was a great success.

金曜日、みな早起きをして合宿初日を迎えました。アメリカ各地から私の弟子や
友人たちが参加してくれたのはうれしいことでした。金曜、土曜、日曜の３日間、
新たな唐手認定課題を、みな一生懸命稽古しました。会長が参加して下さったおかげで
とても充実した合宿でした。

Kaicho demonstrated and taught 2 sport kata, Passai Dai International and Seipai,
to the delight of everyone. The kata are beautiful and it was a great opportunity
for everyone to learn them from Kaicho Isao Kise. Virtually all of the students
practiced the kata with Kaicho and several were able to learn them well enough
to practice them after the camp. It was a wonderful session.

また、会長は全空連指定形のうちパッサイ大とセイパイを、演武の上、ご指導下さい
ました。どちらも美しい形で、会長から直接ご指導をいただくことができ、みな
大喜びでした。何人かの門下生は、この二つの形を自分で練習できるぐらいに
憶えることができました。本当にすばらしい経験でした。

Additionally, Shihan Greg Lazarus taught a session on sparring drills on Sunday
morning while the higher (3rd dan and above) students practiced gun and knife
defenses and chokes. I heard many good comments about the session and
everyone who attended enjoyed it greatly.

加えて日曜日に、三段以上の有段者が銃やナイフに対する護身術などを練習している間、
アメリカ東部地区支部長グレッグ ラザラス八段が、残りの門下生に組手のドリルを
ご指導下さいました。この日の内容も充実したものでした。

Sunday afternoon was a winding down session since most everyone had left by
then. The time was reserved for review of the weekend's activities and
techniques with approximately 30 or so students remaining. Sunday evening
was rest time and I was ready for it. It was a very active weekend and I was
very tired. Kaicho and I took it easy and headed to Dallas on Monday morning
for some shopping and relax time.

日曜日の午後は、自由参加だったため、ほとんどの参加者はすでに家路につき、
残っていた門下生３０人ほどでしたが、合宿で習ったことをみなで復習しました。
合宿終了後の日曜の晩には、私はもうヘトヘトでした。会長ものんびりされ、
翌日月曜日の朝には、会長の帰国前の買い物などのためにダラスに向かいました。

This camp was a perfect 10th anniversary camp for the Winter Tuite Camp.
We had approximately 110 people in attendance from all over the country
including Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Washington, New Hampshire,
Colorado, Kansas, Georgia, Arizona, California, Minnesota, and of course,
Okinawa. It was even more special with Kaicho making his first trip to the
US by himself and all three US Directors were in attendance and all four
8th dans in the US were in attendance. All but 2 or 3 of the federations
7th dans in the US were in attendance and all of this added up to a very
special camp.

今回１０年目を迎えた唐手冬期合宿は、１０年という節目にふさわしい、
とても充実した合宿でした。アメリカ各地（テキサス、アーカンソー、
ルイジアナ、イリノイ、ワシントン、ニューハンプシャー、コロラド、
カンザス、ジョージア、アリゾナ、カリフォルニア、ミネソタ）、そして
沖縄から総勢約１１０名が参加しました。会長が初めてお一人でアメリカに
いらっしゃったこと、そしてアメリカ支部長３人が全員合宿に参加できた
こと、アメリカにいる八段４人が全員参加できたこと、そしてほとんどの
七段が参加できたことなど、どれも特別な思い出となります。



I want to very much thank Kaicho for making this trip, and to my friends and
fellow directors, Shihan Greg Lazarus and Shihan Jeff Ader for coming. Also,
a special thanks to Shihan Dave Fasig, Shihan Loren Engelby, Shihan Taco

アシュリー錬士夫妻が沖縄を訪れました。





Thomas has trained in karate for the last thirty years and earned his 6th Dan in 2009

in the presence of Grand Master Fusei Kise and Kaicho Isao Kise.

Candice is a brand new 6th kyu. The couple owns and operates their own school,

Buffalo Karate, in Buffalo , Texas . The school celebrated its 20th anniversary

this past March.



トーマス錬士は空手を始めて３０年、２００９年には名誉会長と会長

より六段を授与されました。奥さんのキャンディスさんは緑帯６級に

なりたてです。お二人はアメリカテキサス州のバッファローという町にある

Candice and Thomas try to visit the island each summer for training.

While in Okinawa the couple trained at Gunners Gym with Grand Master

during the day and attended Kaicho’s classes at the So Honbu Dojo at night.



ほとんど毎年、沖縄に稽古に来られるお二人は今回も、日中は

名誉会長がご指導なさるガナーズジムで、そして夜は総本部道場で

稽古に励む日々でした。



This year they got in some great sightseeing around their karate training including

the Busena Terrace Beach Resort Underwater Observatory, Orion Beer Company,

Nago Castle Ruins, and Peace Park just to name a few. Candice explained that

Sensei Jerry Devries is always a great help to them during their stay.



また今年は、ブセナ海中公園、オリオンビール名護工場、名護城跡、

平和祈念公園などの観光も楽しみました。ジェリー先生にもいろいろ

お世話になり、感謝。





The couple loves the island and karate. They are thankful to have such a great

karate family and the opportunity to train under Grand Master Kise and Kaicho Isao Kise.



お二人とも沖縄と空手が大好きで、すばらしい空手ファミリーの一員として

名誉会長と会長のご指導を受けることができるのはかけがえのない経験です。

news from an overseas branch. Janelle Alexander from
Okinawante Dojo (taught by Sensei Cuthbert Hicks) in
Trinidad & Tobago has won a Bronze medal in the
18-20 Kumite Division at the Central American &
Carribbean Championships held in Barbados (April
27-May 1).　Congratulations!

海外支部道場門下生の活躍のニュースは総本部道場の
門下生にとっても励みになりますね。

Hearing about a success of a student overseas
is truly inspiring for the students at the So
